Lechler paintsDave Williams has a company distributing Lechler paints in Warrington, Chesire, UK. He has been a colourist for 20 years. The last 7 years of those he has also been distributing mixed colour to garages etc. Also does his own formulations to suit any particular car, motorbike or truck. The Lechler paint system Lancia used is Extralucido (cellulose). Cellulose was used on car production lines until the late 1970s. Even before then, a two component system was used on the production lines. Lechlers product is called Isokryl. As the name suggests, it is an acrylic two component paint. Most people now use Isokryl to refinish older and newer cars, as cellulose is now deemed to be an old fashioned product. Isokryl is therefore used, as it has more "hold up" capabilities against atmospheric pollutants etc. So therefore, will hold up for a lot longer than cellulose. For metalic cars, Lechlers product called BSB, is recomended with a two componet lacquer over the top, as again, this has excellant hold up capabilities for any restoration work, and is quite easy to work with, especially if the undercoat is a two component primer, i.e. Lechlers "Macrofan" primer. Lechler at the moment is experimenting with its water based system to meet the new European requirements on v.o.c.s (volatile organic content). This product is called Hydrofan. Most manufactures of paint products are going down this line possibly within the next two years. Dave's email address is Bmw520inj@aol.com. He will answer your questions.
