I want to congratulate you on your very fine letter! It is a sad thing to think that many of Italy's older classic cars could be taken off the road and destroyed.
Lancia is truly one of Italy's national treasures. Owning a Lancia is really a whole way of life or expresses a whole way of life. My father taught me to dive a straight transmission in his Aurelia B24 Sypder, I shall never forget those days and that car(which has been sold long ago and now lives on happily in Italy)
I believe with my heart that the genius of the Creator can be seen in the design of Lancia (most especially the pre-Fiat models: Aprilias, Ardeas, Aurelias,Appias,Flaminias,Flavias and of course Fulvias). Any body who has ever worked on these cars with care knows what fantastic genius went into their design, they are mechanical works of art, truly a harmonic blending of science and art. In my humble opinion the designers of these cars were creative genious' who were given gifts from the Creator Himself and when one owns a Lancia, drives a Lancia, maintains a Lancia he or she eventually contemplates the finer things in life, not unlike beholding a work of the master Michel Angelo, or hearing Rossini ect... the heart and souls of Italian men and women went into each and every Lancia. One can truly feel this by owning a Lancia and this is a feeling that can be had by owning precious few other makes of cars.
Thanks again for writing your letter and please keep us posted on the web of this situation in Italy. We old car owners here in CAL/U.S.A. face a similar situation with the state's gov't offering money to people crush old cars! I believe we drivers of old cars can use some ideas presented in your letter to help defend our old classics from being crushed and sold for scrap.
Take care and keep up the good work.
